Visual inspection under reproducible conditions
In production, goods receiving and quality control, visual inspection is often the fastest test method – provided the conditions are right. Changing daylight, shadows and differing magnifications mean that two inspectors arrive at two results.
The basics of lens strength are covered in detail in Focal length, magnification and working distance and in Which diopter suits you? – this article is about what makes this particular application special.
What a magnifying lamp contributes at an inspection station
- Constant lighting conditions regardless of the time of day or how close the window is
- A defined magnification – every inspector sees the same thing
- Low-shadow illumination thanks to the ring-shaped LED arrangement, important for surfaces and edges
- High colour rendering from Ra 90 upwards for colour-related inspection criteria
Designing the workstation
For stationary inspection stations we recommend the articulated arm: it can be positioned exactly and stays put. For changing inspection locations or checks directly at the line, a roll stand is the more practical choice. For larger components the version with a large rectangular lens pays off, because it shows more area at once.
Equipping several workstations identically
If several inspection stations are to work comparably, their equipment has to be identical – the same diopter rating, the same light colour, the same design. We supply such fit-outs from a single batch as far as availability allows. Tell us the quantity and the version you want and we will check availability and prepare a quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Does a magnifying lamp replace a measuring microscope?
No. It is intended for quick visual inspection, not for measuring inspection. For magnifications beyond roughly threefold, there is no way around a microscope.
Which diopter rating for goods receiving inspection?
Usually 3 or 5 diopters – you need an overview of the whole part. 8 diopters only pays off when defined micro-features are involved.
Are data sheets available for documentation?
Yes, for the common models. Send us the article number and we will send you the documents as a PDF.
